NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported today that the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed NCAA free agent center Jacob Quillan. Quillan comes from Quinnipiac University where he served as an alternate captain this season.

Quillan was never drafted but has progressed well in the NCAA over the past couple of seasons. As a result, he garnered lots of interest from NHL scouting teams. It seems that the Toronto Maple Leafs won out in this case though as per Elliotte Friedman.
There is word Toronto is signing Dartmouth, NS native Jacob Quillan out of Quinnipiac. Won a national championship last year, lots of competition for his services this year.
Quillan had 17 goals and 46 points in 39 games this season, including a few clutch moments such as this overtime winner against Minnesota.
Leafs Nation, meet Jacob Quillan. #LeafsForever.
He also won a national championship last year when Quinnipiac defeated Minnesota in the frozen four championship game. That season he has 19 goals and 38 points in 41 games. The 22-year-old will now look to start his professional career, likely starting with the Toronto Marlies. He joins a Leafs prospect pool that is lacking at every position so he may very well work his way up to a role with the Leafs at some point over the next few seasons.
