The Toronto Maple Leafs have big goals once more heading into the 2024/25 season, and they may not yet be done making moves before the season begins.
Early this off-season, the Toronto Maple Leafs were making many moves, with Craig Berube officially replacing Sheldon Keefe before the team added three veteran names early in free agency. Unfortunately, the moves have stopped since then, with Alex Nylander the only notable addition, and now, some fans have expressed frustration about the predicted forward group ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Those fears may soon be alleviated, as GM Brad Treliving has noted in a recent interview that even with training camp rapidly approaching, he is exploring many options to upgrade this current roster.
«To me, we've still got five weeks or so till camp. And, you know, we're not set yet. We continue to look at ways to make our team better. I said at the end of the year we're going to look at everything. Sometimes people fall in love with ' 'let's make a big change just to make a big change'. At the end of the day, you can go out and make big changes. If they're not making your team better, to me it doesn't make any sense to just make a change just to stand up and say 'look at it, we made this big change.'"
While no specific changes were mentioned, one can only assume Nick Robertson, who has already requested a trade may be among those pieces looking to be moved, and with a logjam of veterans in the bottom-six of this forward group, there are plenty of trade candidates in Toronto. The top-six can be arranged many different ways to promote success, but to have that success in the playoffs, the Maple Leafs need more quality depth, and if Treliving can make another move or two, this may be one of the best Maple Leafs teams we've seen for a number of years up and down the entire roster.
