More updates on Leafs draft pick Ben Danford come to light after head injury during practice

Toronto Maple Leafs 2024 first round pick Ben Danford left a prospect practice early today after he took an awkward hit along the boards.
Leafs reporter Mark Masters was the first to report the news, saying that Danford left the ice after the play. He also included video of the event, although the hit itself was cut out. All we can see is the reaction afterwards. To the credit of the team's other prospects, several of them skated over to defend him without getting overly physical.
The man in charge of the practice was John Gruden, current head coach of the Toronto Marlies. As he is used to working with the younger players, it makes sense why they chose him to coach the prospects here. He was able to give us an update after the session, saying that Danford was still being evaluated. Furthermore, he revealed that it was undrafted camp invitee Marshall Finnie who made the hit on the Leafs' most recent 1st rounder. He added that Finnie feels terrible about what happened.

At this point in time, the Leafs have not released any further statements regarding Danford's status. Hopefully, this was just a minor bump that looked worse than it actually was. At this point though, we may have to wait until tomorrow to get the full picture as to how Danford is doing.
The 6'1" 190 pound blueliner recorded 33 points in 64 games last season with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League. He added 4 goals and 10 points in 21 playoff games
