Late on Wednesday, Auston Matthews inked a four-year extension with the Maple Leafs, and unsurprisingly, his captain revealed just how excited he was about it.
Matthews and John Tavares have been key to the Leafs consistency at the top of the Eastern Conference over the past few years, and shortly after the extension at a charity event, Tavares was asked for his thoughts.
Hearing that news, it doesn't get better than that for us here in Toronto and our fan base. I know how much he loves it here.
The two have played together for five years now, and as we have all seen, Tavares is proud of the steps Matthews has taken over that time.
I think you have seen the leadership and the maturity rise, along with his game and the balance of his impact as player, on and off the ice, and what he means to the team and the sport in general.

Stanley Cup window remains open
With the core four seemingly intact for the coming season, the Leafs Stanley Cup window remains officially open, and after taking a major step forward this past season, it appears they're ready for another one.
Matthews extension keeps him in Toronto for the near future, and while the future of the remainder of the team remains uncertain, with him locked in, they'll always be competitive, so this seems to be a win all around for the Leafs.
