In the last few hours, TSN 690 took advantage of comments made by Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas to start the rumour machine.
During the Leafs end of season review, Dubas mentioned that he is willing to trade any player on the team if it will help them win, which was definitely not an option in the past.
Now that those words have been said, TSN 690's trade proposal is to send Cole Caufield, Michael Matheson and the fifth overall pick in the 2023 auction for none other than Auston Matthews.

Personally, I don't think this deal makes sense for a rebuilding team like the Habs. Plus, Caufield is a crowd favorite. Trading a guy like him with an exemplary attitude for Matthews who is much colder, even if extremely talented, doesn't sit well with the crowd at all.
