With Kyle Dubas' chapter as a part of Toronto concluding, significant changes within the organization seem inevitable.

While it's likely that many key decisions will be held off until a new GM is established, there will undoubtedly be a crucial call to make concerning Sheldon Keefe.
Darren Dreger recently shared fresh insights about the Leafs' position concerning Keefe's future.

Dreger's Take

Whenever a new GM steps into a team, they enjoy the liberty to build their staff. So, why instigate modifications now? This is what Dreger talked about on TSN.
"I would think that, for the incoming GM, unless he just believes - after conversations with Shanahan and the star players - that a coaching change is needed, I'm not so sure why there would be an urgency to make that change because we know that there are other candidates out there.

Andrew Brunette is going to be an NHL head coach next season. Travis Green is back in the conversation, as he should be. Where is Gerard Gallant going to land? So there are definitely candidates.

If you want to consider experience, Peter Laviolette makes a lot of sense to me, but again, are we underestimating Sheldon here? Did he simply get out-coached by the Florida Panthers [and the] experience of Paul Maurice?

Some would say yes he did... I don't like pinning things on head coaches... I put it on the players, to be fair."

The next GM will undoubtedly have a talk with the players and Shanahan to know their opinion of a possible change of coach.
If the decision leans towards a new face behind the bench, as Dreger has pointed out, there's a lot of interesting contenders.
Do you think Keefe will be back next season in Toronto?
