Keefe Reveals He's Impressed by a Surprising Prospect
The Toronto Maple Leafs celebrated consecutive wins against the Montreal Canadiens and many players did well in these games.
While many focused on Matthew Knies, labeled as the Leafs' top prospect and believed by many to be NHL-ready, other players like Ilya Samsonov, Jake McCabe, Easton Cowan, and Fraser Minten also shined.
In the post-game interview , Sheldon Keefe hinted at being particularly taken by one player's performance.
Keefe Impressed By Particular Prospect
Fraser Minten has been consistently impressive during the pre-season. In a span of four games, he's scored a goal and three assists.
Keefe talked about him during his post-game comments.
He noted that his admiration for Minten wasn't limited to his on-ice prowess, but also his demeanor off the ice.
Here's Keefe's response when he was asked to talk about the young athlete's attributes:
"It's a long list, quite honestly. It's an old cliché, but he is mature beyond his years. Not only just how he plays, but on the bench. He's the most talkative guy and there's not a lot of fluff in what he's saying. He's directing traffic. He's coaching in a lot of ways.
It was the same in Traverse City with reports that we got from Jon Gruden: he's engaged in the game. His leadership qualities are what really stand out. And then he gets on the ice and he competes, he's in the right spots and he can make a play. So he's a great player. We were excited about him when we got him in the draft. And from what I've seen, his development from last year to now is remarkable."
Such commendations from the coach will undoubtedly fuel Minten's ambition to secure a spot in the Leafs' roster.
