Auston Matthews' Next Contract Will Reportedly be a Record-Breaking Deal
Auston Matthews is undoubtedly a top 5 player in the NHL and his next contract will have him paid like one. Read more to see all the rumors!
Matthews' Next Contract Will Shatter Records
Auston Matthews is coming off of a down season by his standards where he only potted 40 goals and scored 85 points.
This was a down year for Matthews. He knows it, the Leafs know it, and the media knows it. With standards set as high as winning the Rocket Richard year in and year out, anything short of 50 goals will look like a disappointment.

Despite this, it is rumored that Matthews' next contract will be record-shattering!
On the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman said this regarding Matthews' next contract:
"I think he's going to be the highest-paid AAV in the league" - Elliotte Friedman
This is huge praise for Matthews considering the most expensive contract in the NHL is currently at $12.6 million per season which is Nathan Mackinnon's current deal.
This could mean Matthews could receive upwards of $13 million per year which will be the richest contract in NHL history. If Matthews hits the open market after next season, he will likely receive an offer of over $15 million per year if he returns to MVP form.
This will be difficult for Toronto to match but Matthews has expressed multiple times how he would like to stay in Toronto multiple times.
