Lightning GM Julien Brisebois Breaks Silence on Stamkos Trade Rumors

The Tampa Bay Lightning have not quite looked like themselves this season. Now the future of their captain could be in question as he is on an expiring contract. However, Julien Brisebois recently addressed his contract situation.

Lightning General Manager Addresses Stamkos Trade Rumors

Steven Stamkos has been repeatedly involved in trade rumors this season given the fact that he is on an expiring deal and the team could miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017. However, Lightning general manager Julian Brisebois addressed these rumors, stating unequivocally that he would not be traded this season.



This is good news for Lightning fans, many of whom were growing increasingly worried about his future with the team. However, this does not change the fact that he could make it to free agency without a contract as we have not heard anything about a potential contract extension for the 33-year-old.

Stamkos Still Scoring In Peak Form

The Lightning captain has shown that he still has it this year. He has 18 goals and 41 points through 41 games so far this season. This is essentially the same scoring pace he had last season, and it is just a tick below his career pace.


Meanwhile, the 33-year-old continues to rise on the all-time leader boards for various scoring categories as he continues his prolific scoring late into his career.


Given the accolades and general scoring ability Stamkos has had throughout his career, it seems that he is destined for the Hockey Hall of Fame. The only question that remains is whether or not he will finish his career with the Lightning.
