The Tampa Bay Lightning are facing an unfamiliar situation as they find themselves trailing their best-of-seven series 3-1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. While one might expect this to be on the mind of the Lightning's head coach Jon Cooper, he was recently asked about a different matter during a press conference.

Specifically, Cooper was asked about a case involving his former assistant coach Derek Lalonde and goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. Lalonde had leaked some personal information about the Lightning's research on Vasilevskiy, which revealed his weaknesses in net. This leak forced the Lightning to retool their defense strategy to compensate for the vulnerabilities exposed.
Despite the team's current situation in the playoffs, Cooper was asked to comment on this incident during the press conference.
Cooper would reply:
He's just there because he was a assistant coach on the team. So he's trying to offer insight or try to give something relevant to the fans, and he should do something real instead. He just needs to make it accurate.

Cooper would also say:

Sportsnet pays him good money to give his opinion, so he has to make something up about that kind of stuff.

We don't know who's really telling the whole truth but if I had to guess I think Cooper being head coach would know more about things than his former assistant who's trying to get his name out there.
