The Pittsburgh Penguins are facing a difficult turnaround after a 16-year first of missing the playoffs in 2022-23, and now, it appears as though they're chasing Erik Karlsson in a big way.
The Penguins have a solid veteran core, and with that group, they seemingly have no choice but to make a run at the playoffs, and this mock trade would help them do just that.

Penguins Receive: Erik Karlsson (30% retained)
Sharks receive:
Mikael Granlund,
Jeff Petry, 2 first-round picks and 2 second-round picks.
In this trade from Clutch Points NHL, the Penguins would give up four draft picks and two solid pieces to land Karlsson, and while there may be richer deals out there for San Jose, this is a palatable one.
Three time Norris Trophy winner
While most three-time Norris Trophy winners would land teams a lot more, given his cap situation, the Sharks are well aware they won't get an astronomical haul for him, and now, it appears a deal like this could be their best bet.
Even at 33-years of age, Karlsson has shown that he's got plenty left in the tank, and pairing him up with Kris Letang on the blue line may give Pittsburgh the boost they need to bounce back and make a genuine playoff run once again.
