A new report from NHL investigative reporter and insider Rick Westhead has revealed when a final verdict could potentially be expected in the 2018 Canadian WJC scandal. He also outlines when players could potentially return if found not guilty.

Insider Reveals Likely Trial Date In 2018 Canadian WJC Case

Recently NHL investigative reporter Rick Westhead went on to Sportscentre to discuss the 2018 Canadian team scandal. During his time on Sportscentre he discussed the trial that is likely coming and the timeline that the events could take place in.

In his discussion, one of the topics brought up is when the trial is expected to begin for these players. According to Westhead and other sources, a trial is not expected until sometime in 2026.

Because of the backlog in Ontario's court system, it's unlikely that this case will actually get to trial before 2026.

If this is the case players will likely be suspended until the court proceedings are done. Westhead did answer the hypothetical of when players could possibly return if they are not convicted.

If these players are found innocent there is the possibility that these players could be allowed back into the NHL. If a trial is not expected to begin until 2026 they likely would not return before the 2027-28 season. According to Westhead, this all depends on how quickly the case moves through the court.

As the trial dates are announced and this process plays out much more information will be provided. As that information is released we will pass it along to you.
