The Senators captain made the announcement on Instagram this morning. The news made its way around hockey circles throughout the day as senators fans celebrated the news with their favorite team.

Tkachuk continues to be a vital part of this Senators team as he lead the team in goals with 31 and is second in points, only behind Tim Stutzle. He has been particularly hot lately with 5 points in his last three games, including a hat trick against the New York Islanders.

While Senators fans will enjoy these small victories and special moments for the team, they will ultimately be disappointed as the team will miss the playoffs once again this year.

Many around the hockey world expected the Senators to take a step forward this year. However, the season was derailed once again thanks to bad goaltending as well as some prominent off-ice issues.
