The NHL has been rocked by the tragic events in England recently, and now, it appears as though the players are taking the increased measures of player protection seriously.

A superstar joins the movement

After several other players have begun wearing the guards on the ice during games, another NHL legend is now joining the fray ahead of a key matchup on Saturday.

Claude Giroux said he will use the neck guard this evening. Wants to try it out. #Sens

While a lot of younger players seemed happy to make the change, those veterans set in their way were expected to be the harder ones to convince, but this move signals that may not be the case after all.

Plenty of players wearing guards

Beyond Giroux, the likes of Erik Karlsson, T.J. Oshie, Rasmus Dahlin and so many others have already begun wearing them, and unsurprisingly, they look fantastic on the ice too.

While the guards may not 100% prevent a tragedy like the one we saw, they definitely improve player protection, and as such, it's smart for players to join the movement, which will potentially force the NHL into a mandate that's supported by most players and fans.
