Unfortunately, not every No. 1 overall pick in sports turns out to be a superstar, but at 21-years of age, could the Rangers be giving up on one too soon?
According to Elliotte Friedman, that's exactly what could be happening with 2020 No. 1 overall pick Alexis Lafreniere, and with his relatively cheap $2.35 AAV on his recent deal, a move could be coming soon.
Everybody is kind of in a position where they're saying, look, we're going to try this under a new coach, see where it goes if it's not good next summer then I think you can move him at a number that I think teams can handle because I just think if it's another year likes this they're probably going to have to move on. To me it's a 2-yr deal, but it's a 1-yr deal in New York and then we will see.
With a new Head Coach in town, New York are hoping for big things out of Lafreniere, but if not, it appears a move could be on the way.

In 216 games, Lafreniere has registered just 91 points in his career, and given the hype he had coming out of the OHL, it's safe to say that the Rangers and Lafreniere have been disappointed with his play thus far.
However, at just 21-years of age, there's plenty of time to bounce back, and if the Rangers are going for a Cup and believe he won't help them, then there's plenty of other teams in the league that could bet on his significant upside.
