Tomas Tatar entered this offseason as an unrestricted free agent meaning he had some big decisions to make.

Devils Offered Tatar A One-Year Deal

In a recent interview, Tatar took the opportunity to talk about his offseason and the free agency process. He revealed that early in the offseason, he turned down a one-year deal from his previous club, the New Jersey Devils. He wanted to test the market though because he thought he could get a multi-year offer.
Tatar then revealed that he quickly found out he would be unable to get any such offers.

Tatar Signs With Colorado

Tatar eventually agreed to terms on for a one-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche. As the Avalanche are expected to be cup contenders again this season this should give him an opportunity to win a cup and perhaps increase his value as a player, giving him the potential to earn a multi-year contract next offseason. Perhaps he could even get an offer from the Avs if their captain Gabriel Landeskog is unable to return from his injuries.
Tatar put up 48 points last year in a full 82 games with the Devils. He will likely score at a similar rate this season, but perhaps he can get a little extra ice time on a team that has had serious injury problems with their forward core in recent years.
