Connor McDavid's Potential Move to the Toronto Maple Leafs is Increasing More Than Ever

Few teams have had a worse start to the season than the Oilers. In fact, the Sharks are the only team that has been worse on a points percentage basis, but they were expected to be bad so their start might not even seem as bad to many fans. As such, the Oilers are in complete disarray, leading many to believe major moves may be on the horizon for the organization.

McDavid Hints At Move To Toronto Maple Leafs

The disastrous start to the season has many fans suddenly thinking about these comments McDavid made about Toronto this offseason. Some believe that his description of the team and city here indicate that he would love to play for the Blue and White in Canada's largest city.

"I could feel that a little bit. It's fun. It's fun to play in Toronto. You know, obviously, I'm a little bit biased. I'm a Toronto kid. But I strongly consider Toronto to be kind of the Mecca of hockey. I really do. Just with all the media and the fans and, obviously, the history of the Leafs. So I like watching Pittsburgh for obvious reasons. And I'm probably going to get in trouble for saying this (chuckles) but I like watching the Leafs just with all the talent they have. Those are probably my top two."

This comes as gossip surrounding McDavid and the Oilers has picked up in recent weeks. Today, things escalated even quicker as it was reported that McDavid is 'legitimately pissed off.'

Where Do The Oilers Go From Here?

At this moment, the Oilers future has not been less certain since before the 2015 draft lottery. The team has also just fired head coach Jay Woodcroft. McDavid spoke about this as well, seemingly implying Woodcroft was not the issue with the team as he defended him.

McDavid himself has not been performing up to his usual self as he has just ten points in 11 games played. It seems very likely that he is playing through an injury as the team announced he would be out one to two weeks earlier in the year only to rush him back for the heritage classic, one of the few games the team has won this year.

McDavid has two years left on his contract after this one. Draisaitl has just one year left on his league-best contract. At this point it seems like the team will very likely not be able to keep both players long-term if they keep performing like this. As such, the next moves the Oilers make could be franchise defining. They must find a way to turn things around, and quick.
