Today reports of a former Edmonton Oilers defenseman wrapped up in legal trouble have surfaced. The report indicates what he has been convicted of and his punishment for his crimes.

A report coming today from TVA has confirmed that former Edmonton Oilers offensive defenseman Janne Niinimaa has been convicted of tax fraud. According to the report Niinimaa had failed to pay taxes in his home country of Finland for several years.

As a result of these crimes, Niinimaa was sentenced to a four-month suspended prison sentence.


"He was sentenced to four months of suspended prison, which means he can stay out of jail as long as he doesn't break any of the conditions of his probation." - Via TVA Sports
