Johnny Gaudreau and brother killed in biking accident
It's with a heavy heart that we write this. Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew were tragically killed in a biking accident on Thursday night in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, close to their hometown of Salem in Salem County.
It's hard to process this loss, especially knowing they were supposed to be groomsmen at their sister Katie's wedding the very next day in Philadelphia. Johnny's wife, Meredith, was set to be the maid of honor.

The accident reportedly happened around 8 p.m. when a vehicle trying to pass hit their bikes. The driver stayed at the scene, but no charges have been filed yet as the investigation continues.
This feels like a painful déjà vu for the Blue Jackets community, recalling the tragic loss of Matiss Kivlenieksl in 2021 during a fireworks accident.
Johnny played for Boston College where he led them to a National Championship, and starred for the Calgary Flames and Blue Jackets.
Johnny leaves behind his wife and their two young children, Noa and little Johnny. Our hearts go out to his family and everyone who knew him. This is a tough loss for the Blue Jackets family and the entire hockey community.
