The Pittsburgh Penguins just completed the biggest move of the trade deadline.
Penguins Trade Guentzel To Eastern Conference Rival
The team has officially given up on making the playoffs this year. Today's moves signal major changes coming for the Penguins franchise. The trade was first reported hours ago although we only got bits and pieces of information about it as the teams needed extra time to figure out the details. However, we did know early on that Michael Bunting would very likely be part of the trade thanks to reports from the Hurricanes themselves as well as NHL insiders.
Hearing that the Hurricanes and Penguins are very close to a Guentzel trade. But still some details to work through. Bunting is part of the package. Both teams are playing tonight which also may complicate timing to some degree. But all signs point to Guentzel going to Carolina.

Bunting is a fine player, but he is certainly not on the same level of Guentzel. However, he does still have two years left on his contract after this one, with a reasonable 4.5 million dollar cap hit.
These initial reports are now hours old though as it felt like we had to wait an eternity for the trade to be finalized. Thankfully, we now know everything about the deal.
Full Details Of Guentzel Trade Finally Revealed
Now there are more questions facing the Penguins. Will they continue to make trades, selling off players for future assets, or will this be the extent of their retool as they look to turn things around quickly? We should get some answers in the next couple of days.
