It is no secret that the Oilers goaltenders have been horrific this season. They have been so bad that veteran goalie Jack Campbell, who just signed a four-year 20 million dollar contract, has been sent to the AHL. Now the team may be making another move.

Oilers Targeting Canadiens Goalie Jake Allen

The Oilers have not been a team known for their stellar defensive play. That being said, they need better goaltending if they are going to consistently win games in the National Hockey League. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman noted that they have talked with the Canadiens about Jake Allen.

"[The Oilers] spoke to Montreal, who do not need a goalie in return, about the possibility of trading Jake Allen but I sense nothing imminent there"

If the Oilers and Canadiens can't come to an agreement quickly the Oilers may need to explore other options.

Edmonton Oilers Keeping Goaltender Options Open

Allen is not the only goalie the Oilers have reportedly been interested in. Friedman also noted that they are keeping an eye on other goalies that could potentially be on the move this season. The most notable names he listed were St. Louis' Jordan Binnington and Nashville's Jusse Saros.

Either goalie would be an upgrade on their current tandem. Binnington is likely the cheaper option, but he comes with risk as he has not been consistent since winning the Stanley Cup.
