Official Ruling Revealed On Why The Leafs Tying Goal Was Called Back

The Florida Panthers closed out their second round match-up vs the Toronto Maple Leafs, winning the series 4-1.
However, a major controversial call happened yesterday when the refs disallowed a Maple Leafs goal.
The Panthers jumped up to a early 2-0 lead, but the Leafs would get one back to make it a one goal game. Then controversy would strike as Morgan Riley appeared to tie the game.
However, after video review the play was determined:

Many of Leafs Nation including management didn't understand the call.
It's now been revealed why the goal was disallowed:
The Referee deemed the play dead prior to the puck crossing the line. The call was made in accordance to Rule 78.5, which states apparent goals shall be disallowed "When the Referee deems the play has been stopped, even if he had not physically had the opportunity to stop the play by blowing the whistle."
