Former Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf joins Gary Bettman and the NHL in a new role
This evening news has come out that former Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf is returning to the NHL in his retirement in a brand new role.
Today the NHL has announced that Ryan Getzlaf will be joining the governing body of the NHL alongside Gary Bettman and George Parros in charge of Player Safety.
Must read on Daily Hockey Dose
Ryan Getzlaf spent his entire career with the Anaheim Ducks and played a physical style throughout. He now joins former Duck George Parros in the NHL's Department of Player Safety. In the past, George Parros having sole control of decisions within this department has drawn criticism.
The addition of Ryan Getzlaf, who was a physical player but not an enforcer, could bring balance to the decisions made. This announcement does not confirm the exact nature of Ryan Getzlaf's role within the department. However, the fact that they announced it at all likely means they have plans of him being heavily involved in decision-making and policies going forward.
As more information is provided on the situation we will continue to pass it along to you.
