Today reports are coming out from a recent court appearance confirming that former Team Canada member at the 2018 WJC and NHLer Alex Formenton has retired.
The 2018 World Junior Championship team for Canada has become infamous after 5 players Alex Formenton, Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Carter Hart, and Cal Foote were charged with serious crimes. Since being charged they have begun the legal process that included each player turning themselves in.
Now the players had one of their first court appearances since turning themselves in to the police. During the proceedings updates were made on each of the individuals as they could not attend in person. Michael McLeod and Dillon Dube have signed contracts in the Russian KHL and begun play. Carter Hart and Cal Foote remain at their respective homes and are training to pursue a future in hockey still. Finally, it was revealed that Alex Formenton has retired from hockey and is working a job in construction.

Before turning himself in Alex Formenton had already been out of the NHL for some time. He originally played for the Ottawa Senators but did not sign back with the team after they learned of these allegations. He eventually would go to Switzerland to play for HC Ambri Piotta.
Now it seems Alex Formenton's hockey career has come to an end. It remains to be seen where the charges and case will go against these 5 individuals. A trial is expected to commence at some point within the next year or so.
As more information is made publicly available we will continue to update this story.
