Alex Ovechkin's bank account frozen over suspected debt
Here's some news that's sad and unusual concerning Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin.
Maxime Truman just published an article reporting Ovechkin's bank account in his home country has been frozen due to an unpaid debt of approximately $550 USD to the federal tax department. To be clear, his main professional account has been frozen in his own country, and it's not your typical headline news.
"Championat reports that Alex Ovechkin's professional bank account has been frozen due to a 543 US dollar debt in federal taxes.
It's not a good time to owe money to the government over there, I suppose." - Andrew Zadarnowski

Ovechkin, who has earned around 140 million dollars in his career according to, plus his endorsement contracts, is suddenly making headlines for something quite unexpected and something that potentially can be misinformation.
UPDATE
Here's what a source close to Ovi told Match TV
"Ovechkin himself does not owe anything, this is a technical error. The individual entrepreneur does not conduct commercial activities; it only has patents for Alexander's trademarks. Our accountant is looking into this now"
The Great 8 isn't very active on social media, is in a tough spot. At 38 years old, Ovechkin still has two more seasons left on his contract with the Washington Capitals, earning 9.5 million dollars per year. He's 41 goals shy of tying Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history with 894.
