Kessel is a three-time Stanley Cup Champion. He has played 1,286 games in the NHL and amassed 992 points. Kessel also currently has a record 1,064-game streak without missing a game. This Iron Man streak is the longest in the history of the NHL. Many had wondered if Phil Kessel would be interested in playing if his streak were put at risk. We now have an answer to this as well.
According to the report from Friedman, Kessel is willing to end his Iron Man streak to continue playing in the NHL. This is something that Kessel wanted NHL teams to know up front so they did not have to tiptoe around the situation.
When it comes to Phil Kessel as an asset for an NHL team he certainly isn't the player he was in his prime. Last year in Vegas he finished with 36 total points in 82 games played. This was his lowest point total since his rookie season. Phil can likely still be a solid depth piece on a contending team that brings leadership and experience to the locker room.
