Samsonov and Lybushkin's Friendship Hits Speed Bump In First Days as Teammates
Ilya Samsonov and Ilya Lybushkin are friends, however, that friendship hit a bit of a speedbump in their first days as teammates for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Samsonov Leaves Lybushkin High and Dry After Offering to Pick Him Up From the Airport
We've all been there before, when a friend is coming into town you offer to pick them up at the airport. Unfortunately for Ilya Samsonov, his friend Ilya Lybushkin was arriving to Toronto late into the night, which meant Samsonov would not be able to pick him up.
Samsonov joked about this in a recent interview when talking about his feelings about playing with his friend Lybushkin.
"[Samsonov said he and Lyubushkin] texted last night, but when the new guy inquired about getting picked up at the airport at 10:30 tonight, Sammy said don't bother, he'd be asleep."
We are learning something new about Samsonov here, he likes to be asleep at a reasonable hour, since 10:30 isn't that late.
Lybushkin Trade Getting Mixed Reviews From Fans
The Lybushkin trade was met with mixed reviews from Leaf fans on social media, saying that the Leafs really needed a top-pairing defenseman, not a bottom-pairing depth defenseman. However, with most of his salary retained, the Leafs still have a lot of flexibility to add on their blueline.
The question remains if Brad Treliving will find another defenseman to play on the top pair with Morgan Rielly.
