Mitch Marner has long been thought to be a trade candidate for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and on day one of training camp, his agent has addressed his future.
The Toronto Maple Leafs were once again disappointed by Mitch Marner's performance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season, and it led to a summer filled with trade speculation. However, that may not be the case after all, as a recent statement released by Marner's agent seemingly implies that he may be in the middle of negotiations for an extension with Toronto.
"To maintain the integrity of ongoing negotiations, it is essential that these discussions remain confidential and are conducted in a constructive manner. As such, we will not be providing public updates on their status at this time."

In similar fashion, Marner made it clear during his first interview of the new season that he's not talking about his contract situation, although all of this clearly indicates there is movement behind the scenes. Marner is an Ontario native, and he enjoys playing for the Maple Leafs, so it's quite obvious he would love to keep that going, but with free agency set for the summer of 2025, there could be a big pay rise ahead if he hits the open market.
However, neither Marner or his team are talking about the situation, so don't expect to hear much official chatter on the situation as Marner and the Maple Leafs prepare for another run at the Stanley Cup in 2024/25 as they look to finally end a near 60-year drought.
