It looks like the Toronto Maple Leafs could be sending a strong message to Nicholas Robertson after he made a controversial statement in a recent interview.

Robertson Voices His Frustration After Demotion for Trade Deadline Moves

Nick Robertson is considered to be one of the team's top prospect. However, Robertson's career has been marred by injuries, slowing his progress.
This season, Robertson has stayed healthy, but that didn't prevent the Leafs from sending him down to the minors many times due to his status as waiver-exempt. At the trade deadline, it happened again.
Robertson mentionned how it affected him over the past years. Here's what he said:
"I understand it, but I'm not going to sit here and say I'm happy. I want to play. I've been in plenty of situations here where the waivers have kind of screwed me. So, like I said, I'm numb to it."

Robertson's Been Skating As an Extra Since That Declaration

A lot of people thought that Robertson would make his way back on the lineup after the deadline. However, the coaching staff seem to have a different plan. In the last few practices, Robertson skated as an extra, which could be a way to let him know that his comments weren't appreciated upstairs.
Robertson is now in a tough place to show what he's capable. Ahead of the playoffs, there's no doubt that he will have his shot and give all he has to prove he deserves a spot.
He's currently going through the final stretch of his contract in Toronto, and we'll know this summer if another team treats him better.
Do you think Nick Robertson will leave the Maple Leafs this summer?
