GM Brad Treliving of the Toronto Maple Leafs once said that Easton Cowan wouldn't be traded, but that seems to have now changed.

When free agency opened up on July 1st, the Leafs were very busy signing players to bolster their defence and net, however that has led to a lack of skill in other areas of their lineup.
The Toronto Maple Leafs were busy. After re-signing Liljegren and Domi on Sunday, they added Chris Tanev (6 x $4.5M), Oliver Ekman-Larsson (4 x $3.5M), Jani Hakanpää (2 x $1.5M) and Anthony Stolarz (2 x $2.5M). A look at their depth chart after Day 1 of Free Agency
Following Tyler Bertuzzi's abrupt departure to Chicago, the Leafs find themselves lacking a top-six winger as well as a third-line centre. The problem lies with their cap space, as the Leafs only have $180k remaining to sign players, so a trade is an absolute must at this point if they are to free up any cap space. There was already talk of whether Cowan was considered an "untouchable" at last season's trade deadline, and we can be sure those discussions will definitely heat up once again this summer.
Is Easton Cowan an «untouchable asset» for Brad Treliving ahead of the trade deadline?🤔

Make no mistake, Cowan is a top prospect in the Leafs' organization, and fans will not want to hear of any trade rumors surrounding him, however, logic may prevail at this point, and Treliving may be forced to have to let him go, if they are to entice other teams to take on some of their other players' salaries to free up cap space.
