Tavares Gets His 1,000 Career Point Against his Old Team the New York Islanders Monday Night
John Tavares has achieved many milestones in his career. As he is currently nearing the end of his 7-year $77 million dollar contract with the Leafs, we can look back at all of his success during that time. He has a point-per-game average with Toronto, wins over half of his faceoffs each year, and can win a puck battle and tip them in with the best of them.
The remaining goal is a Stanley Cup for Toronto. But this week, he achieved a big milestone. On Monday night he scored his 999 and 1,000th point in his career. This came against his old team at USB Arena, and with his father in attendance.
When he reached this accomplishment, the Toronto bench cleared to go celebrate with their captain. The Islanders even posted it on the scoreboard to acknowledge their former star player.

Players usually receive a silver stick for this milestone in their career. There have even been times with the players children were given little mini silver sticks as well. John and his wife Aryne have 3 little ones so this could be a fun family celebration.
Tavares is currently in the second to last year in his 7-year deal. As a 35-year-old player, he probably will not be making the same yearly draw of 11 million dollars a season on any extension. But there is hope that the captain will be able to work out a deal during the summer of 2025 to keep him in Toronto.
