Sheldon Keefe Discloses Two Leaf Players Who Are At Risk Of Losing Their Spot

Sheldon Keefe, the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, talked candidly about an important team issue before their 4-3 loss to the New York Islanders on Thursday night.

In his post-game comments, Keefe was asked to open up on lineup decisions, particularly regarding defensemen William Lagesson, and Conor Timmins.

He gave a candid and honest answer about changing the current defensive unit:


Timothy Liljegren and Mark Giordano, who are finally back from their injuries, joined the lineup, contributed a lot to the Leafs' success. This led to Lagesson and Timmins being scratched a few times.

Keefe Chose Simon Benoit Instead of Lagesson or Timmins

A critical factor in this scenario is the unexpected rise of Simon Benoit. He hasn't just met expectations; manage to make his way to a spot in the Maple Leafs' top four.

General Manager Brad Treliving signed him this summer on a one-year contract worth $750,000. Benoit also played three seasons for the Anaheim Ducks, where he also spent time in the AHL.

Unless the team faces defensive injuries or starts struggling, it would be surprising to see either Lagesson or Timmins back in the lineup soon.
