Ryan Reaves Sends a Clear Message to Maple Leafs Management
The Toronto Maple Leafs are struggling right now and there is no hiding from that fact. Now the team has found themselves involved in off-ice drama further complicating their already difficult season. Ryan Reaves is apparently upset that the team refuses to play him despite having fully recovered from his knee injury.
Reaves Lets Out Frustrations With Leafs Coaching Staff Over Healthy Scratches
Technically speaking, Reaves has not been a healthy scratch since he got injured on December 14th. The team has officially kept him on injured reserve, forgoing the formality of scratching him. However, the forward is reportedly perfectly healthy according to himself.
«Yeah, I've been ready for a couple weeks now,» Reaves said. That's a question for them. I am not in those rooms, in those conversations. I'm not going to speculate anything. Just stay ready. And if I get called upon, I do. If I don't, I get my work in.»

He is also growing increasingly frustrated that the team refuses to play him despite having recovered from the knee injury. Instead, the fourth line has had a rotating cast of rookies including
Bobby McMann,
Pontus Holmberg, and Nick Robertson alongside
Noah Gregor and
David Kampf. Sheldon Keefe has mixed up the fourth line many times in recent games but Reaves has yet to make another appearance.
Reaves On His Way Out Of Toronto Permanently?
Based on his recent interview with Sportsnet reporter Luke Fox, it sounds like Reaves or more or less done with the Leafs. He is resigned to the fact that he may not play another game with the organization. It seems as though he may be hoping for a trade to another NHL team in the meantime.
"Either stay patient to get in the lineup — or stay patient for whatever else is going to come."
Healthy scratch Ryan Reaves talks about life outside the Maple Leafs lineup:
Trading Reaves probably isn't an option though due to the fact that Brad Treliving signed him to a three-year deal this offseason. The new Leafs GM will likely have a difficult time finding a team to take on that contract without having to throw in other assets as well, accepting essentially nothing in return. It seems as though the Reaves experiment in Toronto has been an abysmal failure, much to the chagrin of Leafs fans everywhere.
