Today Paul Bissonnette made a bold claim about one of the NHL's brightest young stars.
Ovi Chasing Down Gretzky For The Goal Record
This season the NHL and hockey community has been on Ovechkin watch every night. This is because Alex Ovechkin sit just 67 goals away from the all-time NHL record.

This is a record that many believed would be impossible to surpass for many years. Now Alex Ovechkin is nearing the record and will likely break it before his career ends.
Although Ovechkin is on track to be the goals leader an NHL analyst believes he will not hold this title for long once he gets it.
Bissonnette Claims A Young Star Will Break The NHL's All-Time Goals Record
Today on the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette spoke about the all-time goals record. According to Bissonnette, he believes there is a young star in the league who could break the record eventually.
"I think that there's a high chance that Matthews ends of being the highest goal-scorer of all time. He's a freak in the gym, and the way that the game has evolved, it kind of protects these kinds of players. He doesn't play nearly as physical as Ovechkin did. So as far as his body holding up - people do say he was injured a lot more than Ovi was. Especially early on. But, buddy I think there's a high probability that Matthews ends up breaking the overall goal record."
Bissonnette points out that Matthews plays less of a physical game and could stay healthier later in his career. He also points out that Matthews is on pace for a 70-goal season. This is something that Ovi never has done and no one has done since Alexander Mogilny in the 90s.
Auston Matthews of course is still hundreds of goals away from even being close to the record. However, if Matthews continues the pace he is on to this point in his career he will undoubtedly enter the conversation eventually.
