As training camps are set to begin in about a month, Brad Treliving has plenty of time to work some magic for the upcoming season.

Toronto Trade Talk

Treliving possesses an array of trade assets at his disposal. There's a lot of speculation about potential trades involving William Nylander, Nick Robertson, or Matt Murray. A Nylander trade would not only provide much-needed cap relief but could also yield a significant return for the Leafs.
Given Nylander's value, it's intriguing to think what Treliving might be able to get in return.

An ideal trade target has been identified.

Looking for Defense

The Maple Leafs could benefit from bolstering their defense.
Last season, Treliving helped shape the Flames' impressive defensive lineup.
"Calgary's top six D during the playoffs last season:

Zadorov, 6"6
Gudbranson, 6"5
Hanifin, 6"3
Tanev, 6"2
Andersson, 6"1
Kylington, 6"0

Conor Timmins is the only Leafs D signed for next season over 6"1. Adding size will likely be the first big change on D Treliving makes."
Treliving adding some size to the Leafs' defense wouldn't be a surprise, and who better to do it than the soon-to-be free agent Chris Tanev?
"Wouldn't be my primary target (due to age), but I think if Treliving's going to acquire any of his former Calgary players, Tanev is the most likely of the bunch."

"Christopher Tanev, the king of doing the little things."

Tanev, with a year remaining on his $4.5M AAV contract, may not have the same impact as in his younger years at age 33. Nevertheless, he continues to excel on the ice, doing the little things right.

Moreover, Tanev's willingness to play in Canada, even in a larger market, is well-known.
"Yeah, at least you know he's willing to play in Canada and in a larger market. Even if he's taken a step back, could be a nice replacement for Gio at least."
Standing at 6' 2" and weighing 193 lbs, Tanev would be a fantastic addition to Toronto. His previous connection with Treliving could be a key factor in making this move a reality. For now, all we can do is wait for official news to surface.
