According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Toronto Maple Leafs are scouting every defenseman in the entire NHL, and while it may sound like an exaggeration, it's certainly not.
«As I always say, I think I've said it 40 times this year, Toronto's looking at every defenceman in the league. That's what I just keep hearing. If there is a defenceman they like, they're going to try to get him.»

The defensemen most often connected to the Maple Leafs this season are Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin of the Calgary Flames, for whom Treliving was a big part of arriving in Calgary, but beyond that, there are many options.
