The Pittsburgh Penguins have a fantastic veteran core, but without a load of promising young names coming through the organization, they made an interesting claim on Friday.

After starting his NHL career with his hometown Calgary Flames, Phillips moved to the Washington Capitals this past summer, and produced well to start with, but ultimately ended his tenure with 1 goal and five points.
In his final two AHL seasons with the Flames organization, Phillips put up 68 and 76 points, so he clearly has the talent to play at the next level, but has yet to produce in the NHL, so perhaps this could be the best chance yet for him to make an impact.
