Even with all the expectations on him coming into the NHL, Sidney Crosby has been better than anyone could have thought possible, but now, his stellar career appears to be winding down.
However, even at 36-years of age, No. 87 is still getting it done at an elite level, putting together another stellar season in 2022-23 with 33 goals and 93 points in 82 games played a season ago.

Even at his age, it appears there's still one more contract on the horizon for arguably one of the top-five hockey players of all-time, and according to one writer, it's going to have one very significant theme to it.
One thing that seemingly all hockey players are is superstitious, and that's a great word to describe Crosby, as his entire career revolves around the No. 87 (his birthday was 8/7/87).
Now, according to Penguins writer Dave Molinari, that's something that's going to be all over Crosby's next and likely last deal in Pittsburgh.
While precisely how many seasons Crosby's next contract will cover is hard to say, there's not much mystery about the money that will be involved. It's pretty much a lock to be based on some permutation of «87,» whether it's the third in a series of contracts with an $8.7 million salary-cap hit, a deal that pays him $87 an hour or one that's worth 87 cents per second.
Ultimately, Crosby, after an incredible career can't have much time left in the NHL, and Pittsburgh sending him into the sunset with a contract involving 87 would be a great way to go.
