Kyle Dubas is in his first season as the general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He follows his long tenure in Toronto now trying to bring a Stanley Cup back to Pittsburgh.

Today he and the Penguins placed several players on waivers as part of their latest round of roster cuts.

Penguins Place Several Players On Waivers

Earlier today it was announced that the Pittsburgh Penguins had placed 5 players on waivers today. All 5 are players with NHL experience that had a potential path to staying with the big club.

Mark Friedman (PIT), Magnus Hellberg (PIT), Vinnie Hinostroza (PIT), Colin White (PIT), Radim Zohorna (PIT)

This now means that the final roster has essentially been set. The Penguins will have a mix of veterans and a few younger players getting their first full opportunities in the NHL.

Penguins Roster Now Set With Some Massive Upgrades

The Penguins after their waiver placements have essentially finalized their roster heading into the 2023-24 NHL season. Taylor Haase of DK Pittsburgh Sports put together what the potential lineup may look like.

Jake Guentzel - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust
Reilly Smith - Evgeni Malkin - Rickard Rakell
Drew O'Connor - Lars Eller - Jansen Harkins
Matt Nieto - Noel Acciari - Jeff Carter
(Radim Zohorna as the extra forward, unless he doesn't clear and/or they like anyone better on the waiver wire)

Ryan Graves - Kris Letang
Marcus Pettersson - Erik Karlsson
P.O Joseph - Chad Ruhwedel
(Ryan Shea as the extra defenseman)

Tristan Jarry
Alex Nedeljkovic

The biggest changes to the roster mostly come on defense. The additions of Ryan Graves and Erik Karlsson figure to be a huge help to a team that struggled defensively.

Up front, Drew O'Connor earns a roster spot after getting some time in the NHL last season. Jansen Harkins also pushed and made the roster as well. Finally, the Penguins were able to add Reilly Smith via trade to really bolster their top-six.

Now that the roster is set it will be fascinating to see if Kyle Dubas' imprint on the team can lead to success. For such a veteran group anything short of a Stanley Cup will likely be considered a disappointment.
