In recent news, the KHL made a contract decision that could lead to the NHL debut of Matvei Michkov much sooner than previously anticipated.

NHL Prospect Sergei Ivanov Has Contract Terminated by KHL

In a surprising move, the KHL has recently announced the termination of Sergei Ivanov's contract and allowed him to sign a new 2-year deal with SKA, which runs until the end of the 2024-25 season.

Per the #KHL, SKA has terminated the contract of #CBJ prospect Sergei Ivanov and he signs a new two-year contract with them which runs till the end of the 2024-25 season.

It was reported earlier that he'll join Admiral on loan.

Ivanov was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 5th round of the 2022 NHL entry draft.

Could Michkov's Contract Also Be Terminated?

The announcement came with the obvious question of whether or not something similar could happen with Flyers' 7th overall pick Matvei Michkov, who is under contract with SKA until 2026. The Flyers knew this when drafting him, and were okay with allowing him to develop in the KHL in Russia.

However, Michkov has been recently lighting it up, so it's likely the Flyers might get antsy in awaiting the debut of their new prospect.

Now terminate Michkov's contract and sign him to a one year extension.

Matvei Michkov scores AGAIN, this time against his former KHL team.

He now has 4 goals, 8 points in 8 games with Sochi at age 18. 👀
