Members of the Hockey media are speaking out over what is perceived as a light response by NHL Player Safety over an incident involving Jacob Trouba.

HNIC Panel Views Player Safety Response To Trouba As Lenient

Many in the Hockey media landscape are questioning a $5,000 fine for high-sticking to Rangers Captain Jacob Trouba after he appeared to hit or nearly hit Bruins Forward Trent Frederic over the head with his stick.

On Hockey Night In Canada, Panelist and Former NHLer called the hit a "Fred Flintstone hit", comparing Trouba's stick whacking to the famed cartoon caveman. Fellow panelist Ron McLean was critical of NHL Player Safety, questioning how such a play only led to a fine. "That's unbelievable, how can that only be a $5,000 fine?", McLean said.

Other media members laid criticism on Player Safety, including longtime Hockey Writer Ken Campbell, who argued for as much as a 25 game suspension to Trouba for the incident.

It's unclear if there was intent to commit bodily harm to Frederic, or if Trouba's act was unintentional and uncontrolled, although Player Safety ruled at the very least the move was dangerous enough to warrant a fine, but not a suspension, a move that has raised eyebrows in some parts of the NHL media.
