The renowned insider Pierre LeBrun reported that the New Jersey Devils could soon make a big splash in the NHL.

Season-Ending Injury to Hamilton Leads to a Lot of Trade Possibilities

The Devils' season hasn't started according to plan. Currently sitting outside of a playoff spot, the team's GM Tom Fitzgerald could be in a position to make significant moves ahead of the trade deadline.
Following the terrible news of Dougie Hamilton's possible season ending sugery, putting his $9 million salary on the LTIR could allow them a lot of cap space to make moves.
With the Devils' goaltender struggling and Hamilton's injury, Fitzgerald has been looking at ways to improve his defense and his goalies, with reported interest in Ducks' goalie John Gibson.

Pierre LeBrun, during a segment on TSN's "Insider Trading," shared insights into the Devils' strategy:
«They don't have a firm timeline, but my understanding is he's probably out until the playoffs, until perhaps late April, early May,» LeBrun said. «The flip side to that is that means they have a $9 million cap hit to play with ahead of the March 8 trade deadline and that's the intention from the New Jersey Devils to likely be aggressive if they improve in the standings.»

«They've already been doing their due diligence on the D market, but they could also potentially add a goalie. They could add a couple of players that can help that roster with that $9 million.»
With the holiday roster freeze in effect, making a big move before the end of the year would be surprising. With the deadline on March 8th, the organization still has time left to make their decisions.
