Slafkovsky's Rough Start

The first NHL season of the first overall pick in 2022 didn't go as planned. He only played 39 games before an injury kept him sidelined the rest of the season.

Jonathan Bernier, writing for Le Journal De Montreal, shed light on Slafkovsky's future, coming back from a serious injury and a tough rookie season.

The Canadian already has 12 forwards with NHL contracts. A group to which we must add the name of Juraj Slafkovsky. If everyone is healthy, at the end of training camp, there will be no room for a new kid on the roster...

...However, a start to the season in Laval for Slafkovsky is not impossible... The top pick in the 2022 draft missed the entire second half of the season with a left knee injury.

Starting the Season in the AHL?

The idea that the first overall pick could be downgraded to the AHL isn't seen well by any fans.

But the Canadiens have a history of using the AHL as a proving ground. A notable example is Cole Caufield, who played a few games with the Rocket to regain his confidence during a rough patch in the NHL.

Do you think Slafkovksy will start the season in the AHL?
