Last night Connor McDavid made a controversial play that had fans up in arms looking for a penalty call but after further review, the debate continues over the call.

The Edmonton Oilers closed out the Dallas Stars last night in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. Despite being heavily outshot by the Stars the Oilers hunkered down defensively and took advantage of their offensive opportunities.
ZACH HYMAN!! IT'S SHAKING IN OIL COUNTRY!!
At one point a call that was not made by the referees had fans going ballistic online claiming that the gamed was rigged. Oilers captain Connor McDavid had the puck in the corner when it popped up into the air he caught the puck and closed his hand around it which in general is a penalty.
Looks like McDavid got away with closing his hand on the puck
With no call made by the official fans who had been watching the game took to X to voice their displeasure.
Shocker lol. ESPN would probably praise him for it if they had the game tonight.
Can the league make it any more clearer man lmao, what a joke.
Although fans were upset with the no call this actually was the correct decision by the referees. According to the rule book a player can hold or grab a puck with their hand as long as they do not advance it up the ice before dropping it.
67.2 Minor Penalty – Player - A player shall be permitted to catch the puck out of the air but must immediately place it or knock it down to the ice. If he catches it and skates with it, either to avoid a check or to gain a territorial advantage over his opponent, a minor penalty shall be assessed for 'closing his hand on the puck'." The NHL's rulebook says

In the case of Connor McDavid, he does close his hand on the puck but does not move before eventually dropping it and continuing play. This led to the Oilers being able to stay at five on five and the Dallas Stars just could not find the back of the net enough to get back into the game.
Now the Edmonton Oilers will go up against the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals beginning on June 8th.
