The Edmonton Oilers made headlines this weekend in many ways, but the biggest of all was the announcement that they had landed veteran forward Corey Perry for the remainder of the year.

Corresponding move incoming from Edmonton?

According to a report, the move to land Perry changes many things for the Oilers at the deadline, and now frees them up to finally move off Jack Campbell and his dreadful contract.
«I think getting those two pieces for free (Holloway & Perry)..changes the total outlook of their deadline..I think it opens up the door for them to move Campbell.»
Many believed that the Oilers would need to use major assets to upgrade their team, but after finding help in Perry, those assets now become a weapon to move the struggling veteran.

Stanley Cup push coming for the Oilers?

After signing a huge deal, Jack Campbell has been a major disappointment for the Oilers, and after struggling early in his stint with the AHL, he has turned things around in a big way recently.
Still, with that contract, the Oilers will no doubt need to use an asset or two to offload his contract, and if they can manage to do that, they'll be set up for success over the next few years until they approach the free agency of their two biggest stars.
