As we get into 2024, the Red Wings are currently in a rough patch. Kane's new team lost six of their last seven games and are slowly slipping away from a playoff spot.

Things changed since Kane joined the team. Even if he's been playing well, scoring six goals and 11 points in 11 games, the team's overall performance dropped. In those 11 games, the Wins only managed to win three games.
Potential Strategies for Kane and the Wings if Playoffs Are Out of Reach
A new development revealed that Kane talked with the Wings' management about possibly leaving the team if they fail to make it to the playoffs.
Kane's cap friendly contract and his strong performances could bring valuable assets to the Red Wings if they decide to trade him to a playoff contender team.
Of course, that's not Detroit's ideal situation. Trading him would likely confirm the team won't make it to the playoffs this season.
Nothing's confirmed, however. There's a lot of games left to be played before the trade deadline. Currently 5th in the Atlantic Division, They're not far from making it. They're one point away from the Tampa Bay Lightning, and three from the Maple Leafs at the fourth and third spots. They also have three more points than the Montreal Canadiens.
