NHL insider Frank Seravalli broke the news today that both the Red Wings and Zadina are close to agreeing on ending their contract.

A Calculated Risk

Zadina is taking a calculated risk by giving up over $4 million in the hopes of reaching a deal with another team.
Zadina is now going to be one of the most in-demand free agents available. It's an unexpected turn of events, but it could be a game-changer for the ambitious young player.
As for the Red Wings, they're rumored to be the top contender to acquire Alex DeBrincat, which could make a very interesting replacement for Zadina.
