Hurricanes make enticing offer to Utah for Clayton Keller
Now free of Evgeny Kuznetsov's $6million cap hit with the forward opting to leave the NHL for SKA in the KHL in Russia, the Carolina. Hurricanes and Washington Capitals have freed up significant cap space for both teams to make moves.

On that note, the Hurricanes have made a formal offer to the Utah Hockey Club, putting the disgruntled forward Martin Necas and draft picks on the table in exchange for star center Clayton Keller and a 2026 4th round pick.

With Kuznetsov's departure creating cap room, both the Caps and Canes are in a better position to adjust their rosters. The Capitals have been linked to Patrik Laine of the Columbus Blue Jackets recently, but that deal will take time to come together with the player remaining in the NHLPA assistance program and prohibited from speaking with outside parties.
As for the Hurricanes, they could use some of that free cash to give Necas and Seth Jarvis the money needed to make their contracts finally click; should both wish to remain part of the storm surge. If they don't, Necas can be flipped for Keller and his $7.15 million cap hit.
