The Calgary Flames find themselves in a great position to get some major assets for a re-tool, and even with their recent momentum, it appears they are ready to move some massive pieces.
Jacob Markstrom on the way out of Calgary?
While it was easy for Calgary to sell Tyler Toffoli, Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm as they were pending UFA's, Markstrom is not, meaning Calgary may not be motivated to move him.
Given the emergence of Dustin Wolf in the AHL however, moving Markstrom for a haul makes complete sense, with New Jersey and Toronto emerging as two teams that could become genuine trade partners.

Carolina Hurricanes emerging as a top landing spot for Markstrom?
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Line however, the Carolina Hurricanes are emerging as a genuine destination for the star goaltender.
The Carolina Hurricanes have been linked to Jacob Markstrom ahead of the deadline
Given their depth up front, this is a team that's ready to make a genuine Stanley Cup push, and if they can add a top goaltender, it would make them that much more dangerous. In 2023-24, Markstrom has had a major bounceback, tallying a 2.56 GAA and a .914 save percentage, and if he finds himself behind a much better group of skaters, he could be that much better.
Carolina clearly aren't the only contender interested in Markstrom, as a bidding war may begin between several Eastern Conference teams, but now they're another to keep a very close eye on.
