The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some solid moves this summer, but they'll need another big one if they are to make a major playoff push, and it appears a Canadian rival could be the perfect trade partner.
While there's plenty of talented defenseman out there, there's one that fits everything the Maple Leafs are looking for, and on top of that, he's an Ontario native.
Chris Tanev has been fantastic for the Calgary Flames over the past few years, and as an out-and-out defensive defenseman, he may be the perfect partner for Morgan Rielly at the top of the Leafs blue line.

Over the past three years in Calgary, Tanev has tallied 57 points, but it's his toughness, communication and leadership that make him a genuine star, and at this point, the Maple Leafs would be silly not to pursue him, especially with his UFA status next summer.
So, how do the Leafs get him? The folks at Hockey Patrol have revealed this mock trade, and it could be great for both teams.
To Toronto: Chris Tanev 50% retained
To Calgary: Connor Timmins, Nick Robertson, 2024 First Round Pick
With this move, the Leafs would get tougher on the blue line, something they desperately need come playoff time, and with his leadership, securing Tanev may be the move that takes the Leafs over the top.
